What counts as a plumbing emergency

If water, gas or sewage is somewhere it should not be, treat it as an emergency. The big ones we see in Hurstville:

A burst or split pipe flooding a kitchen or ceiling cavity
A blocked toilet in a one-bathroom home
Sewage backing up through floor wastes or the gully outside
The smell of gas anywhere on the property
A hot water tank leaking from the base
Water pouring from an overflow that will not stop

Older homes here often have ageing copper and galvanised pipework that lets go without much warning, and the unit blocks near the station can turn one small leak into three affected apartments fast. If you are not sure whether your problem qualifies, call anyway; two minutes on the phone with us is free and it might save your floorboards.

How fast we respond in Hurstville

Fast, because we are local and we know the shortcuts. Emergency calls to 0485 838 404 are answered 24 hours a day, and for genuine emergencies inside Hurstville and the surrounding St George suburbs we are often on site within the hour, traffic permitting. When you call we will give you an honest arrival window, not a vague promise, and the plumber rings ahead when they are on the way. Every emergency callout is handled by Dial Up Plumbing's experienced crew, arriving in a stocked vehicle so most urgent repairs are finished in a single visit.

What to do while you wait

A few minutes of action can save thousands in damage:

Burst pipe or major leak: turn the water off at the main; in most Hurstville homes the stop valve is at the front boundary near the water meter, and in units it is usually in the laundry or bathroom
Suspected gas leak: turn the gas off at the meter, open windows and doors, do not flick light switches or light flames, and wait outside
Overflowing toilet: close the small isolation valve on the wall behind the cistern
Leaking hot water unit: switch off its power at the breaker (electric) or turn off its gas tap, then close the cold water valve feeding the tank

Then leave the rest to us.

Our Process

How We Work

A clear, transparent approach to every plumbing job we take on in Hurstville.

Initial Assessment

We start by thoroughly inspecting your plumbing system to pinpoint the real cause of the problem, then give you a clear, honest recommendation on the most effective way to fix it.

Transparent Communication

You are kept in the loop at every stage. We explain what is happening, what is causing the issue, and exactly how we plan to put it right, with no jargon and no surprises.

Professional Execution

Our licensed Hurstville plumbers use only top-grade materials and modern tools, so every job is carried out with precision and to the highest industry standards.

Quality Assurance

Before we pack up, we run a detailed quality check to make sure everything is working exactly as it should. We do not leave until you are completely satisfied with the result.

FAQ

Do you charge more for after-hours emergencies in Hurstville?

After-hours work carries a higher callout than a weekday booking, which we tell you on the phone before anyone is dispatched. There are no surprise loadings added later; the price you accept when you call is the price you pay.

How quickly can you reach an emergency in Hurstville at night?

Usually faster than during the day; the roads are empty. For genuine emergencies in Hurstville, South Hurstville and Penshurst we are frequently on site within the hour of your call, and we will give you a realistic ETA before you commit.

My ceiling is bulging with water. What do I do first?

Turn off the water at the main, switch off electricity to that part of the house if you safely can, and put a bucket under the lowest point. Do not pierce the bulge unless water is already escaping and you need to control where it lands. Then call us; trapped ceiling water needs draining and the source fixed quickly.

I can smell gas but cannot find a leak. Is that an emergency?

Yes, treat it as one. Turn the gas off at the meter, ventilate, avoid switches and flames, and call us from outside. A licensed gas fitter will pressure-test the line and locate the leak; gas smells in Hurstville's older homes often trace back to perished flexible hoses or corroded fittings behind appliances.

Will an emergency plumber fix the problem permanently or just stop it?

Our first job is to make the situation safe and stop the damage. Where a permanent repair can be done on the spot, we do it; if the real fix is bigger, like relining a collapsed sewer line, we secure things, give you a written price, and book the follow-up so you are never left hanging.
